Arcade brawling with flashier visuals and hordes of foes

ShaqFu A Legend Reborn revives a 90s cult name with a cleaned up look and a sharper focus on punchy, old school combat. Set in a stylized take on Japan, you step into Shaquille O'Neal’s shoes to pummel waves of demons in a straightforward side scrolling beat 'em up that wears its silliness proudly.

The major upgrade is presentation. The visuals are much more vibrant than before, giving each arena and enemy some personality. A proper storyline now frames the action, so fights are not just strung together but stitched into a simple, tongue in cheek narrative that helps pull you along. Its sense of humor is intentionally over the top, landing plenty of gags while occasionally drifting into cheesy territory.

Combat delivers what genre fans expect. There is a broad cast of enemies, and the variety in designs keeps the early hours lively as you figure out how to deal with different threats. The rhythm is rapid and satisfying, with lots of screen filling scraps and enough spectacle to make each scuffle feel bigger than the last. Still, the core loop relies on repeated fist flying encounters, and the longer you play, the more that sameness starts to show.

As a modern take on a once maligned title, this remake hits the right notes. It looks better, moves faster, and adds a narrative backbone that gives the brawling some drive. If you enjoy classic beat 'em ups with a playful tone and a parade of bad guys to smack around, ShaqFu A Legend Reborn offers a lively, if occasionally repetitive, throwback that embraces its own absurdity.
